A New Vegan Skincare Line To Adore: KYI - Hydrating, Effective and...Affordable!

KYI - Know Your Ingredients

I'm very excited about all of these new and natural brands that I'm being introduced to lately, but even more excited to read about their founders and their quest for good.

The latest brand is KYI (short for Know Your Ingredients).  KYI was founded by one woman, Samantha Addonizio, an attorney and mom (strong woman here...love it!)  who wished to create a "Whole Food" vegan skincare line because, like many of us, she was disappointed after reading the ingredients on her skincare labels.   With only three products, currently, she's clearly taken her time creating them.  All three are effective, pure, fun to use, smell divine, are available in unscented and are incredibly affordable for such quality products.

WHIPPED SHEA BUTTER MASK

(A Super Hydrating Cream)
Don't let the name of this fool you.   This isn't a "wash off" mask, but rather is a super moisturizer, the big guns of hydrating, if you will.  You can apply this at night and sleep with it on.  My skin was so incredibly soft the next morning that I kept touching it.  You can also use it as a spot moisturizer on feet, hands, elbows or even to condition dry hair and add shine. I would liken the consistency to that of a thick balm-like cream.

I love multi-functional products.  It is a sure sign that you're using something ultra-pure. Three simple ingredients: Refined shea butter, jojoba oil and essential oil (if scented), in the Whipped Shea Butter Mask.  It also comes in a pretty big jar for  $20 4 oz!
This, after a shower...perfection.

SWEET ALMOND SOFTENING OIL

The Sweet Almond Softening Oil was, by far, my favorite product.  I have a lot of body oils by natural companies, but the scent of this (I tested the Litsea Cubeba, a citrus scent) was amazing, the smooth application and the gorgeous dewy look it left on my skin was unmatched. This is now sitting on my bathtub and I apply it post-shower.  I also love the packaging, as it's so smart to put this in a pump.  The ingredients are simple: Sweet Almond Oil (and essential oil if you get one of the scented ones).  I would definitely re-purchase this!  At $20 for 8 oz, it's super affordable!

ARGAN OIL SERUM + VITAMIN C

KYI's Argan Oil has the added benefit of Vitamin C.  It left my skin soft and hydrated and I loved the scent (I tested the Orange Grapefruit).  It also comes in Unscented, but if you love citrus, you'll want the Orange Grapefruit oil.
Again, minimal ingredients: Argan oil, Vitamin C and essential oils if scented.    This, too is a multi-functional product.  You can use it as a moisturizer, to smooth hair and to tame frizzies.  Anyone who is going in the sun during the day needs to be using this at night as it really will hydrate.  The texture is very light and it absorbs fast.  The Argan Oil Serum comes in Orange Grapefruit and Unscented.   And a great value at: $45 2 oz.

  1. I would love to try the Argon Oil Serum in the unscented version. Although I would not refuse any of the three great products. I would love to have the super power of "No Cleanup girl"-- She doesn't have to clean up her house, car workplace--because her super power is the things clean themselves whenever she is near.

    1. Ah, good super power! Even though my apartment (or COMPARTMENT as I like to call it) here in NYC is so small, it's always needing a clean-up due to the air outside. I like your choice, sister! Good luck! K

  2. One product I would LOVE to have from KYI would be the Sweet Almond Softening Oil in Orange Mandarin because I've been loving citrus-scented fragrances skincare! And my superpower would obviously have to be controlling technology (technopath!) so that I can make robots and also find the TV remote with my awesome super power.

  3. I would love to try out the Sweet Almond Softening Oil in Orange Mandarin! :) And I've always wanted to have the superpower of controlling time because I'm a huge Harry Potter fan and I'm jealous of Hermione's time turner. I could definitely use more hours in my days so I can feel less guilty about procrastinating or being late lol.

  5. Whipped Shea Butter mask in unscented, because sometimes even natural scents can be overpowering, you know?!? Speaking of power, my superpower would be to make people behave however I want. I little overreaching and selfish, I know ;), but man, sometimes you just wonder about the manners of some people and if they were raised by wolves, you know?

  6. I would love to try the Sweet Almond Oil, probably in the Litsea Cubeba scent. My superpower would be the ability to write 10 pages an hour (I'm working on my dissertation right now so that would be AMAZING)!

  7. This is tough one because all three are great: Shea ultimate in moisturizing dry skin while Argan Oil is Moroccan Gold. I will like to try something new, so I request the sweet almond oil in Litsea Cubeba scent.

I've always wanted the power of invisibility - like when teacher called on me when I was unprepared. Today this power can also be used to have a better idea of how people truly feel and act. Hence, I will stick with desire to be invisible, though the ability to write 10 in an hour is looking quite attractive.

    1. Yeah, the person above you chose a good super power. Oddly enough, no one has chosen anything to do with making money out of leaves or anything like that. I think that might be mine!

  8. I think I'd like the shea mask best, but it's a hard choice. The Litsea Cubeba scent sounds delicious, since I love citrus (especially in my skincare, though it requires extra SPF).

Can you tell us if the softening oil is in a glass jar? With the essential oils, I would be worried if it were in plastic.

My superpower would be getting through a half-hour of my kid crying through swim lessons without breaking down myself... it's heartbreaking!

    1. Hi Kristy!

Yes, the Softening Oil is in a gorgeous frosted glass bottle with a pump. It's very cool.

I detested swim lessons when I was a kid. Something petrifying about that water when you're little! Good luck!

  9. The sweet almond oil in Litsea Cubeba sounds great! My superpower would be speed...for example, being able to get things done super fast so I can accomplish more! Thanks for the chance!

  10. I would lOVE the sweet almond oil in Unscented! I loved almond oil products from another 'natural' brand, but really... it's not that natural and I do love supporting smaller brands.

Ooo... a super power! Apparition (like in Harry Potter) because I'm lemming to get out of Hotlanta and visit The Lake District in England. I've had enough of grey skies and mosquitos. Not to mention, I would save a lot of money on airfare. I just need a quiet little holiday in a quaint village with good food and natural products. xx

    1. Hi! Yes, supporting small brands is so important. These people are trying to make quality, healthy products for us and they need us! Good luck & nice to hear from you! K

  11. I would love to have the Whipped Shea Butter Mask 'cause I ADORE shea butter-based body creams. I'd like ti tin the orange mandarin scent 'cause I love fruity smells.

If I could have a super power, it would be speed reading. I like to read but barrel have enough solitude to do so. Speed reading would allow me to read all of the books on my infinitely long 'To Read' list while still leaving time for more pressing matters

    1. First congrats to all the winners!

For Efe, they say you can learn to speed read. Your local library might offer classes. I'm sure there are dvds or books you can buy on the subject.

If all else fails, audio books may prove convenient. Of course, you may listen while you do another task. However, if you read a book while listening to the audio equivalent, it will force you to read at a certain tempo. While I am able to read faster than the audio, I find it difficult to read a whole book in say 4-6 hours. With just my eyes, I get distracted, take breaks, or re-read passages. Thus, I take a longer time with the audio.

  12. I would love to have the serum in orange grapefruit. If I could have a superpower it would be the ability to wave my hand and make people with horrible outfits dressed better.(I hate when I see people walking around the city in pj bottoms and slippers- that is not an acceptable outfit choice!!!)
